GIVING HOPE TO THE HOPELESS

Christine Babirye is 15 years old and a total orphan. I have tried so many times to write her story but failed because I wasn't sure about what and how I could write until a friend Lainy gave me a bright idea to write it just as it is.So today I have written.

I received a message from one of the senior midwives who help me in that hospital to be able to run the ministry smoothly. It said: help needed, 15 years old, baby boy and alive. extremely needy and no family. can you help? I immediately called the midwife back and got a bit of information from her and after I did, I left with the usual pink bag gift pack for WIC . So this is how I met Christine.

This is a true story of this young mother in crisis, I will try as much as possible writing it just as she told me .

I am 15 years old ,the youngest child of my father and mother.I had a brother and a sister.she lived in a village with her family till she was 7 years when her mother passed away(died). After they had buried the mother a woman came to her and told her she was a friend to her mother and she would love to help her so she wanted to take her with her to her home in Kampala the town city of Uganda.Being young and ignorant , Christine never minded to ask any question, she simply left with this woman leaving behind her father, brother and sister. Once they arrived at the woman's home, Christine was told that the reason she had been brought there was to work for that family, so she was not to go to school anymore, and this was the end of her school.

Fate had not yet had it with Christine as two years later when she was 9 years, the woman received a phone call from Christine's village telling her that Christine's father had passed on too and the two children were left alone now, but she did not let Christine go to bury her father and that was not enough yet, just about three months later, another call from the village and this one was a very sad one.The lady was being asked to take Christine to the village so she could have a last look at her brother and sister before they could be buried the two died on the same day after another woman gave them food and they ate not knowing that the food was poisoned. This was the last time Christine received any news from her village and that was the end of  all she had for family. She knew she never had anywhere to go  and no one to go to, therefore this woman became the only family Christine had in the world, she stayed there and worked as a house-girl without pay until she was 14 years when she met another woman who told her that she could take her do the same kind of work but this time she would work for money. She promised she would pay her if she went and worked for her.Christine was now a teenager and she had needs that required her to have some money to meet them.she had to buy clothes for herself and try to look good and neat as a teenager, so she thought this was absolutely was she needed.So she said goodbye to the other woman and this second woman took her to another town to work for her in her house,and babysit too as she goes to work. But she did not keep her promises she only paid her for one month and the after that she begun denying her food,and everything else,she later told her that she was not going to feed her any longer because she was a big girl and she could go let men sleep with her then get money so she could eat.Christine never thought that this woman was serious, but when she failed to go to any man,this woman decided to start bringing a man to her own house and let him have sex with Christine and then the money was given to the woman after that. Christine tried to say no and fight the man, she was seriously beaten by the woman,this happened twice, and she feared to fight anymore,so the man was brought everyday to have her and pay the woman. This went on for almost 6 months on a daily basis.She was being raped everyday for 6 months,then ended up pregnant. Once the woman knew that she was pregnant,she sent her away, she didn't want to see her anymore and threatened to kill her.Christine ran to the neighbor ,this neighbor was a good woman, she welcomed Christine to her home and they begun to look for the man that did that to Christine because they had known of it . When they found him,they asked him to hire a room for Christine to stay in, they threatened to take him to the police if he didn't take care of her and the pregnancy , he knew that what he had done was a serous case and could lead him to many years in prison, so they were able to get him pay a month rent money only and he later ran away from the village and from then,no one knows where he is.This good Samaritan woman took Christine in her house and begun feeding her, taking care of her until the baby was due, brought her to the hospital where Woman In Crisis operates.

The reason WIC was called upon in this case was that, the good Samaritan woman who had brought Christine to the hospital had done all she could,but then she felt she could no longer do it , Christine was not one any more but now had a baby through Cesarean birth after the doctors discovered that she had a serious infection that was a danger to the life of the baby. This was costly, due to the need for drugs to be bought, food and stay at the hospital,this was simply too much for the poor woman who had also done all she could. This lady , Annet felt hopeless and Christine did not know what to do because she was even more hopeless.Thank God for WIC, Christine was able to get drugs and all the treatment she needed, food, water, clothes for her baby boy whom she named John and we gave him our family name Birungi so he is called"John Birungi".

Christine received hope that things could be better. Soon she had a family. She gave her life to Christ.

Right now WIC rents for Christine a room where she lives with her baby, she is hopeful to go for a training in Tailoring so she can be able to become self-sustainable. As for now, through WIC,Christine and her baby are fed, taken to the hospital in case of sickness, bills are being paid for. And We thank God for all of you that are supporting WIC. Everything you give is a blessing to somebody here.

Christine had never known that she is lovable, her self esteem is still low. but,there is a big change in the way she relates, she knows that there are people who love her. and she knows that God loves her.

Now i can smile again

WIC has many more case like Christine and we need your support to have these young mothers have safe delivery of their babies, drugs, food, clothing for them and their babies, baby blankets, detergent, transportation back home and to hospital for check up, home visits, vocational training, self sustainability jump-start businesses.

The aim is to let these young mothers know that, no matter the circumstance under which they conceived their baby, God loves both her and her baby.They are worthy and that God values them, sees them, loves them and cares for them, they can live life while trusting in God and standing on their two feet strong ad proud as God's daughters.

We are bringing hope to the hopeless, helping them see beauty from God's eyes.
